Practice, Practice, Practice

Listen to your child read out loud for 10 to 15 minutes each night. He/she will become a more confident and fluent reader. After reading, ask your child to write about what he/she read. Write what happened in the beginning, middle, and ending of the story. Write about your favorite part of the book. Writing about reading strengthens reading skills through sounding out words. Let's build strong readers through writing.

Learn and practice Fry words for 5 to 10 minutes each night. He/she will need to know at least 200 Fry words to be successful in 2nd grade. Fry words are the most common words found in texts. Fry words build reading fluency.

Practice Math skills for 5 to 10 minutes each night. Each week a math review page is sent home. Also practice addition and subtraction math facts for math fluency.

Fry words, Math facts, and Math review sheets are located in your childs daily folder. If you need books or any other homework resource please let me know. Thank you!
